Sandhya Arati, Bagbazar Ghat, Calcutta

The Ganga Arati photo was shot during the Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowlk 2013, Calcutta edition.

The walk deigned by Manjit Singh Hoonjan, focused on the Northern part of Calcutta (Kolkata).

The walk was along the river Hooghly and past the potters’ quarters of Kumartuli and finally terminating with the grand climax of Benaras (Varanasi) styled sandhya arati at the Bagbazar Ghat.

Although much smaller than the Benaras (Varanasi) version the  sandhya arati, held at the Bagbazar Ghat is definitely a spectacle not be missed.

Chinese Breakfast

Tiretta Bazar, Old Chinatown, Calcutta (Kolkata)

Night owls crawl out of their late night parties and call centre night shifts to rejuvenate themselves with bowls of hot fish ball soups from the road side vendors. Hungry soles huddle around makeshift stall, jostling with each other to grab the day’s first meal.

Both side of the thoroughfare, are lined with stacks of momo containers, containing steaming momos with pork, chicken and shrimp stuffing. Sausages hung from ropes tied to lamp post like fancy lights. Yes, its breakfast time, Chinatown Calcutta !!!! Read more…
