In anticipation of the gala event, scheduled on 21 March, the Consulate General of France in Kolkata organized a testing session and press conference on 9 March 2016 at the French Consulate in Kolkata.

The idea was to introduce the media about the event along with the taste of things to come.

The media was also expected to sample some exotic French dishes during the interactive session with chefs and hotel managers, who will be part of the 2016 chapter of Goût de France.

The media, apart from the conventional media, also included the new age media personnel. I was lucky enough to be on the invitee list along with veteran food bloggers like Poorna Banerjee, Dolon Dutta Chowdhury and Sikha Agarwal.

Eight restaurants from the top hotels in Kolkata were part of the gastronomic carnival of  Goût de France.

  1. The Bridge (The Park)
  2. Cafe Swiss (Swissotel)
  3. La Cucina (Hyatt Regency)
  4. The Dinning Room (The Taj Bengal)
  5. The Legacy Grill (The Lalit Great Eastern)
  6. The Square (Novotel)
  7. La Terrasse (The Oberoi Grand)
  8. West View Bar & Grill (ITC Sonar)

Each of these top notch restaurants came with their sample of exotic French dishes mainly compromising of starters and desserts, but a few served portions of the main course too.

The spread was amazing assortment of food. Prawn Cocktail, from La Terrasse (The Oberoi Grand) was my favorite among the starters. For the main course there were quiet a few favorites, but the Scallops with Quil Egg from The Dinnig Room (The Taj Bengal) definitely stands above the rest.

Egg with Button Mushroom from West View Bar & Grill (ITC Sonar) and Smoked Salmon with Rocket Salad from The Bridge (The Park) were not far behind. The greatest surprise was stored up in the desert section.

Desserts, clock wise from top left: French Meringue Tartlet, Bitter Sweet Chocolate Mouse, Single Origin Chocolate Marquise and Compressed Watermelon

The Bitter Sweet Chocolate Mouse from La Cucina (Hyatt Regency) and the Single Origin Chocolate Marquise from the The Dinning Room (The Taj Bengal) were my personal favorite.

The French Meringue Tartlet from Cafe Swiss (Swissotel) and Compressed Watermelon from The Square (Novotel) were also not far behind.

So why wait!!! book your table on 21 March 2016 (some restaurants are extending the date for about a week) in any of the eight restaurant for the finest French gastronomical experience in Goût de France (Good France).
